Recently I found myself in need of a new mirror. Because I’ve reached the age where my eyes aren’t what they used to be I decided I wanted something with magnification and light. And I like to keep my gadgets sleek, lightweight, and as portable as possible so that I can travel with them. Not a requirement, but a bonus for my needs would be adjustability of the lights and the height/angle of the mirror.
Naturally I headed over to Amazon.com to find something and in short order I’d narrowed it down to three strong possibilities: the Famihomii Rechargeable Lighted Makeup Mirror, the Kedsum Lighted Travel Makeup Mirror, and the Miroposs Rechargeable Lighted Travel Makeup Mirror.
All three products offered magnifications of 10x and had lighted mirrors, so all three met my primary qualifications. But I wanted to see how they would perform for me in real life. How would they actually feel in my hand. And perhaps more important, how would my pores and brow hairs look in them?
I really like the large size of this mirror; that’s exactly what I need to do my makeup on the road. And I love the adaptability of it. The lights can be set at 3 colors for any lighting situation and also at multiple brightness levels. And the handle, which doubles as a stand, adjusts to any viewing angle you want.
That large size might be a drawback for those who travel light however; it’s not very compact. It also doesn’t come with it’s own carry case which is something I might wish for. And perhaps the biggest drawback: since the two mirrors are on opposite sides of the unit it’s impossible to look at them at the same time.
This mirror was the most elegantly compact of all those I tested; it even came with its own travel case! I also liked that you could see both mirrors at once. And the height/angle adjustments were pretty flexible too which is great.
What I didn’t like so much about this one was the light in the mirror: it was one color only and not dimmable. I also found that height adjustment to be kind of finicky which reduced the usefulness of that feature somewhat. And the compact design of course comes with a trade-off in that the mirror itself is smaller. It’s rather larger than a standard purse compact though so probably anyone who is not struggling with needing a larger viewing surface wouldn’t mind.
I loved the slimline design of this one. And it had the 3 color dimmable lights that I now realized I wanted. Plus the main mirror was nice and large. I also loved the low price point; this one was the cheapest of the 3 that I tested.
On the con side was the 10x mirror which was much smaller and a separate stick-on unit. This made it not properly lighted and also not flat for easy travel packing.
In the end I chose to keep the first mirror I tested, the large Rechargeable Magnifying mirror from Famihomii. It’s the best choice for me today.
